THE CALCULATED SUCCESS OF CASEY ADAMS

“Do you know why casinos have such big buildings? Because they’re designed so that they win and you lose. So no matter what game you play, the math says you’ll lose.”

Casey Adams grew up in the casino business, where his dad and uncle helped run and expand the industry. One day Casey asked his uncle, “When I’m old enough to gamble, which games should I play that will make me the most money?”

His uncle laughed and said,

This was very impactful in Casey’s life, and he applied it throughout his career.

When he was in law school and was getting lower grades than his peers, he knew he must be missing something. So he worked harder and talked to professors and successful peers until he found the “missing piece” to his “equation”—which eventually allowed him to finish top of his class.

When he became an entrepreneur and started working at Visible Supply Chain Management, (just a small startup at the time), he began finding ways to improve upon their systems to improve the company’s effectiveness and the customer experience. Both of these things and having a concrete knowledge of the company’s financial math allowed them to make multiple large acquisitions which led to exponential company growth and success.

Casey’s story demonstrates that you can calculate your way to success. When you know that your business “math” works (eg your finances, processes, direction), it allows you to be very bullish at times when others can’t.

INSIGHTS ON LUCK FROM CASEY:

Do you believe in luck?

“Bad luck is when you’re doing the right things and bad things happen, and good luck is when you’re doing the right things and good things happen.” - Casey Adams

Luck is a pretty complicated concept when you get down to it, but it was fun talking about this with Casey Adams.

Here are a few things we decided about luck:

  • If your work isn’t getting you the desired result, then it either means you need to push through some bad luck or, as is more likely, there might be a piece missing in your approach.

  • You social circle influences your luck. One of the greatest methods to obtain success is to go to those who are winning in the areas you would like to be winning in also, and get as close to them as possible.

  • We all have weaknesses and strengths. The Bible teaches us in the Parable of the Talents that everyone is dealt a different hand. The question is, what will you do with it? By accepting what you’ve been given and then doing all you can to turn it into more, you are bringing luck and prosperity into your life. Just work with what you have.
