CUPBOP

THE CUPBOP STORY OF CULTURE, CUISINE, AND CONNECTION WITH DOK KWON AND JUNGHUN SONG

Junghun Song grew up in Korea wanting to be a breakdancer, but ultimately got rejected from this dream. So he went to waiting tables, and got really good at it.

His parents sent him to Utah for school, and while he hated school, he quickly found business opportunites and was able to alter his visa to legally start his own business.

He eventually started a food truck business, which became the early stages of Cupbop, the Korean BBQ concept taking the world by storm.

Dok Kwon was born in Korea, but his parents brought him and his brother to Utah for a trip at a young age, and left them there for better opportunity.

He worked his way through BYU and eventually got a prestigious job at a major hedge fund in Wall Street, before deciding he wanted to do something entrepreneurial, and left to join Cupbop in Utah, where he was an avid customer.

I had the pleasure of interviewing these founders on my podcast, and man do they have some wild stories! They’ve had to overcome tremendous obstacles to get where they are today, and their story is so inspiring. Now with their massive success (plus an incredible Shark Tank deal with Mark Cuban), we’re all excited to see where they go from here.

“Junghun’s advice to any aspiring entrepreneur is “Don’t think to much.” He explained that when you overthink, you often quit. Cupbop never would have been the success it is today if he hadn’t had a big “do now, think later” mindset.
