JEFF DANLEY | DRIVEN BY IMPACT - INVESTING IN PEOPLE, PURPOSE, AND PROGRESS

What do great companies like Podium, Divvy, Weave, and Degreed have in common?

First of all, Jeff Danley, co-founder of Peak Capital and Peak Ventures (now Album Ventures) invested in all of them.

Second, according to Jeff, is that they share these 4 characteristics:

1) A founding team with 1-3 partners. Going solo is difficult, so having a great team to bounce ideas off of and debate ideas can do wonders.

2) Go after big markets instead of small ones. Often you’ll see founders attacking small markets, when in reality it’s almost always better to have a small piece of a big pie, rather than a big piece of a tiny pie.

3) Really try to differentiate yourself. Utah entrepreneurs can sometimes get trapped in thinking like everyone else around them—try to branch out and find a unique market to go after.

4) Solve a real problem. A lot of people don’t try to solve problems that really make an impact. If you can simply fix a problem that causes a lot of pain, then everything else will work out.

Jeff is an incredible entrepreneur, founder, and investor in both real estate and venture funds. He and his partners Jeff Burningham and Jamie Dunn were able to persevere through the 2008 recession and build an incredible business that has done more for Utah’s economy than almost any other company I know of.
