FAITH, RESILIENCE, AND TRANSFORMATIVE JUSTICE WITH SHIMA BAUGHMAN

I think Shima Baughman is one of the most positive and spiritual people I know.

She didn’t get this positivity from having an easy life though—when she was young Shima’s family lived in Iran during a time of political divides and violence.

Her mom was imprisoned for 2 whole years for opposing the government while Shima was still very young, and her dad worked hard day and night to support his family. Can you imagine? Eventually, her dad connected with the right people to get his wife out of prison and flee to America.

Not long after arriving in America, Shima’s family met the LDS missionaries and became members of the LDS church. Through more hard work and divine intervention, her family was able to build themselves up financially and she was able to attend BYU Law School.

“Shima has done a lot of incredible work in the study of law and justice, including research on how religion changes people’s lives for the better. This combined with her past experiences has made her a force of nature and an inspiration to me and everyone around her.”
