AMBITION, RESILIENCE, AND THE ESSENCE OF TRUE CONNECTIONS WITH TODD PEDERSEN

“Focus on people over paychecks.”

In my years of working at Vivint, I got to see some incredible things. But one thing that will forever stand out to me was how the leadership, specifically Todd Pedersen and Alex Dunn, always was honest with everyone in the company.

When times were good, they made sure to let us know. But when the hard times hit, they didn’t hold that back from us either. The crazy part? That inspired us as employees. We felt like we were partners in the business, and hearing about the hard things happening made us want to work even harder to succeed at the end.

Vivint would not have become the massive success it was without Todd’s focus on people over paychecks. He was always willing to talk to everyone, even the new rookies. He was always pushing others to believe in themselves. And he always made sure his people felt cared for, even when some took advantage of him or stabbed him in the back. He was always willing to forgive and move on, even though nobody was forcing him to.

MY FAVORITE QUOTE FROM TODD:

“I wish I had dreamed bigger…faster.”

Despite having accomplished massive amounts of business, financial, and social success, this is one of the few things Todd says he wishes he had done better.

A lot of people who follow me are business leaders, entrepreneurs, and college students looking to go out there and conquer the world. I think we could all take a page out of Todd’s book—oftentimes companies are held back from growth because of the limiting beliefs of the founder. Vivint would not have grown into the massive success it became if Todd hadn’t had the courage to continually dream bigger as it’s founder.

Dream bigger faster!
